2013 Copperstate 1000

One of the benefits of living in the southwest is having the Copperstate 1000 right here in our backyard. This is the 23rd year for the Phoenix Art Museum's (Men's Art Council) annual road rally for sports and racing cars (pre-1973). This may be the longest continuously running rally of its type in the US? I've had the pleasure of seeing the cars off for many of these past 23 years. This year my son and I drove down and took in all the wonderful cars, and not just the cars on the rally - the parking lot had some impressive vehicles as well.

The local chapter of the Classic Car Club of America had a wonderful showing of classics, including a custom bodied Lincoln, a couple post-war Cadillacs, and a stunning 1934 Buick roadster (this might be the same car sold by RM Auctions in 2009 from the Atwood collection). Further, I noticed a couple cars that had recently sold at auction: the 1955 Aston Martin DB3S, which sold at RM Auction's 2012 Monterey sale for $3,685,000, and the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe which sold at RM Auction's 2011 Scottsdale sale for $1,375,00. Glad to see them on the road.
