C.S. Rolls and the 1905 Toursit Trophy Race

C.S. Rolls drives a 1905 Rolls-Royce 20hp (chassis 24263)

The car pictured here is a 1905 Rolls-Royce 20 hp, 4 cylinder (Chassis 24263). This car was the second of 12 total 4-cylinder cars produced by Rolls-Royce in 1905. This is not the Number 22 car raced by Percy Northey and C.S. Rolls in the 1905 Tourist Trophy race, however I believe this to be a second car brought to the Isle of Man at the time of the race. C.S. Rolls is seen in the driver's seat (I'm not sure who's in the passenger seat). The car is pictured at Glen Helen which is between the 9th and 10th milestone (road-side makers) on the Snaefell Mountain Course used for the Tourist Trophy race. Glen Helen was part of the Highland course and Four Inch Course.

Northey and Rolls finished 2nd in the 1905 Tourist Trophy race. Rolls-Royce would refine the 4-cylinder, 20hp model and build 17 more cars in 1906 (chassis 40500 - 40511 and 40519 - 40533) - one of which, would be brought back to the 1906 Tourist Trophy Race and achieve the coveted victory Rolls desired.
